I have this small Honeywell safe that I use to lock up some valuables as well as my handguns. It was cheap, and it does it’s job. What I didn’t like about it was that, every time you push anything on the keypad, it beeped loudly. Obnoxiously loudly. Then it lets out 2 more beeps when it’s unlocked.
The thing about the beeping (aside from being annoying) is that everyone in the house can hear me opening my gun safe. There may be situations where I don’t want necessarily want that, so I decided to de-beep it. With the LED indicators, the beeping was really unnecessary anyway.

So after opening the safe up (and removing everything), I saw that the back of the door could come off easily just by removing 4 screws.

I lowered the back to reveal the electronics. and the lock mechanism.

I was sort of hoping that the speaker would be separate and I could just yank a wire, but that wasn’t case. It’s a regular old peizo buzzer right there in the middle of the board. Since it’s soldered down, I couldn’t just yank a wire. I guess that would have been too easy.
To get the board off, all I had to do was to was squeeze these 2 little plastic clips and pull out gently.

Taking a look at the back of the board, I identified the speaker pins and figured the easiest thing to do would be to just bridge them. Since there was another path running through the middle, I couldn’t just slap some solder on. So I cut a little tiny length of speaker wire and made a U shaped bit for the bridge.
All of the connections to the board just unplugged, so I could work on it freely.

In my first ever attempt at soldering on an actual circuit board, I added the little wire bridge.

Not bad for a first attempt! I did the closer connection first and burned a little rosin, but overall, I’m very happy with it. More importantly, it worked. I reassembled everything, and it works exactly as it used to, just without all the beeping.
